(Photo courtesy by Oregon Historical Society)_______________________________________________________Please join us for an evening celebration of the expanded Vanport Mosaic exhibit Vanport: A Surge of Social Change, on display at Pittock Mansion through November 15, 2021.The Vanport Mosaic started in 2015 as a grassroots collective of historians, Vanport families, artists, media makers, activists, and educators committed to explore and preserve the memories of those who lived in Oregon’s second largest city and survived the flood that destroyed it in 1948. Our community-led effort has been recognized with the Spirit of Portland Award, the Columbia Slough Watershed Council’s Achievement Award, and the Oregon Heritage Excellence Award.- Explore with us the complex history of Oregon’s second largest city and largest WWII federal housing project, destroyed by a flood in 1948. We will share a selection of short oral history documentaries part of our living archive Lost City, Living Memories: Vanport Through The Voices of Its Residents- Get a glimpse of the exciting initiatives we are planning as part of our on-going effort to amplify, honor, present and preserve this history- Learn about the evolution of this community-based history-preservation effort, and how this expanded exhibit aims to honor the legacy of the multicultural and multiracial city of Vanport. - Ask questions, share stories, and join our memory activism community!Thank you to the exhibit’s Presenting sponsor Howard S.
