Medusa Quartet
Overview

Traditional, original & “monstrous” tunes....Medusa reimagines the string quartet.

Wielding a sound that would turn classical music scholars to stone, these four folk musicians are reimagining the Western string quartet. By inviting back voices previously regarded as too ugly for “polite society,” Medusa Quartet (Canada) tempts us to redefine what is beautiful.

With their Canadian Folk Music Award (CFMA) nominated debut album, Medusa’s dynamic arrangement style cross-pollinates the sounds of Middle Eastern, Scandinavian, Celtic, Appalachian, and Eastern European music, as well as original tunes, connecting audiences across dividing lines of culture and identity to reveal the common threads beneath.

Their forthcoming full-length album, “Weaving Gold (in Broken Places)” will be released in Feb 2026, with singles being released every month until then. This collection of original and traditional tunes amplifies voices and stories previously unheard, and challenges our presumptions of what is monstrous.

“Medusa invites listeners to be fearless but open-minded. Come closer, close your eyes and hear the beauty.” - Chantal Vitalis (Calgary Folk Festival 2025)

“Spectacularly, [Medusa] brought us together in a very unique way. There’s no lyrics in what [they] do but there is this exquisite combination of arrangements. Arrangements that brings people in.“ - Tom Coxworth (Folk Routes, CKUA 2025)

“With their connection to the room and their wonderful stage presence, our audience was laser focused and leapt to their feet at the final note of the first set. The exchange between Medusa and the audience created something almost otherworldly.” -Beth Duquette (Burnham Presents, Lincoln, VT, 2025)

The concert starts at 7:30 pm. Doors open 7:00 pm, and carpooling is always encouraged. Get your tickets now. Tickets in advance are $25. Tickets at the door $30, day of the show.
