A Deep Dive into Fictional Technique: Scene and Panorama

We celebrate our Catholic tradition and the arts that spring from that dynamic seed. We offer all people of good will the opportunity to explore, learn, and grow with like-minded writers, students, and appreciators of written words that honor the Trinitarian God.In our mission, we sponsor theCatholic Poetry Society of Houston, theFearless Catholic Writing Camp, and Fearless Catholic After-School Programs.We also host monthly meetings of writers, publishers, and editors associated with the Catholic arts scene. We host mini-retreats combining spiritual reflection and the arts. We invite you to join us! All of our events retain a deep awareness of the spiritual patrimony and treasures of the Church.

Catholic Literary Arts

This two-part class will explore using scenes and panoramas to captivate readers and deepen meaning in fiction.

This deep-dive into craft is inspired by the essay "Fiction Techniques" from Caroline Gordon and Allen Tate's anthology, "House of Fiction." These two notable authors bring decades of thought and writing experience to the forefront as they consider how the elements of fiction intersect with the author’s goal of creating a powerful narrative using techniques and skills that can be learned, practiced, and organized into a story of unique resonance for readers. Professor's BioKiernan O’Connor studied English at Columbia University. He is writing a short-story collection and pursuing his MFA in creative writing at UST with a focus on fiction. His essays and fiction have appeared in Dappled Things, Catholic Arts Today, The Windover, and elsewhere. He works in advancement for the University of St. Thomas-Houston and serves on the advisory committee of Catholic Literary Arts.
