Blue Venture Forum Kickoff Event: Venture Capital and Blue Technology, a case study featuring Dive Technologies

Join the Blue Innovation Symposium, virtually, from 5:00-6:30PM (Eastern), on October 27th, as we launch the Blue Venture Forum and hold our inaugural event, Venture Capital and Blue Technology, a case study featuring Dive Technologies. Over the last 6 years, driven by the need to better understand our oceans, there has been an increase in the number of blue technology startups, successful blue technology &quot;exits&quot;, and investors who are now considering &quot;blue&quot; investments. The Blue Venture Forum will serve as a platform to connect this ecosystem through targeted programming, matchmaking, and partnering opportunities. The BVF wants to particularly thank the van Beuren Charitable Foundation (vBCF), the Greater Newport Area Chamber of Commerce, DTN Ventures, and the City of Newport for their support. Until recently, Blue Tech startups typically grew through bootstrapping and non-dilutive funding, such as SBIRs, and it was almost unheard of to have an outside investor involved. Today, however, the industry is witnessing a wave of interest and investment activity from individual, Angel, and institutional investors, such as Venture Capital (VC) and Private Equity. Founders need help to better understand the nuances of when and how to work with an equity investor and investors need a better understanding of the scope and scale of this sector. Learn how, and why, Dive Technologies pursued Venture Capital Funding and successfully secured more than $9 million in funding. Dive Technologies is focused on the development and commercialization of a long-range, deep-rated, large displacement autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) architecture that is both highly reliable and customizable at a disruptive price point to serve fast growing defense and commercial markets. Prior to starting Dive Technologies, Jerry served a career Coast Guard officer retiring at the rank of Commander. While on active duty, Jerry completed several at-sea assignments, worked on two major ship construction programs, and was the Commanding Officer of a large shoreside engineering support unit. After retirement, Jerry worked at Bluefin Robotics/General Dynamics Mission Systems and was the program manager for Knifefish, a U. S. Navy program of record that leverages the Bluefin-21 AUV to deliver critical mine countermeasure capability to the U.S. Navy fleet. In that role, Jerry successfully transitioned the program from initial development to production.Jerry is a 1994 graduate of the United States Coast Guard Academy and holds engineering graduate degrees from the University of Michigan and an M.B.A. from the Darden Graduate School of Business at the University of Virginia. Jerry and his spouse Seema currently reside in Hingham, MA and have three children that attend Hingham High School.
