Examples range from a simple sigil to a more complex entity, resulting from a ritualized transfer of energy, energetic sustenance and animation by the practitioner. When an entity, particularly one created by a group mind, has become large and sophisticated enough to operate independently, it is then referred to as an egregore.We can refer to psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, Carl Jung, Austin Osman Spare (English occultist /painter 1886-1956) and Peter J. Carroll (occultist/chaos magician) for discussion of such beings, which historically have been referred to as familiars, incubi, succubi, demons, wraiths, atavisms, etc. Jung developed the concept of the psychological complex as "an autonomous, largely unconscious, emotionally charged group of memories, ideas and images."A famous story in Jewish lore, describes a golem created to help a rabbi's wife fetch water from the river, but lacking the intelligence to cease the action, flooded their living space.
