Welcome to the 18th Protecting Mother Earth Conference!

We invite you to the Indigenous Environmental Network’s 18th Protecting Mother Earth Conference, hosted by the Eastern Band of Cherokee, from August 1 to 4, 2024.

Protecting Mother Earth (PME) Conferences are all-outdoor events, and this year, we will be gathering on the Qualla Boundary, located in the mountains of what is now known as Western North Carolina, the original homelands of the Cherokee Peoples.

This is an outdoor event with no registration fees, and the expectation is that guests (if they are able) will camp on-site.

The PME is Indigenous-initiated, organized, and led to elevate the critical voices of those fighting the frontline battles against the violation of our treaty rights, self-determination, environmental injustice, and climate change. We welcome Indigenous Peoples, frontline grassroots groups, and tribal nation representatives – allies and CJ/EJ advocates across Turtle Island.

This is a free, outdoor event (registration required) with the expectation that guests (if able) will camp on-site. Meals and daycare support will also be provided on-site. PME hosts will provide natural, traditional meals sourced from Kituwah Mother Town that are good for the mind, body, and spirit. We will do our best to honor the wide range of dietary needs of our participants, but if you require special dietary accommodations, please be prepared to provide them for yourself.
