Preservation Long Island and the Sag Harbor Historical Society host a virtual Zoom discussion about historic preservation in Sag Harbor.

Please join <a href="https://preservationlongisland.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Preservation Long Island</a> and the <a href="https://sagharborhistorical.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Sag Harbor Historical Society</a> for a virtual Zoom discussion about past and present efforts to preserve Sag Harbor’s distinctive architecture and historic character. • Why are Sag Harbor’s old buildings important? How can we better preserve them?• What are the unique advantages and responsibilities that flow from Sag Harbor being on the National Register of Historic Places? • What challenges and opportunities lie ahead and how might we best meet them?These questions will be addressed by Randolph Croxton, President of Croxton Collaborative Architects, and Sarah Kautz, Preservation Director at Preservation Long Island. Randy will share insights about the remarkable historic architecture found within the Sag Harbor Village National Register Historic District, while Sarah will explain the relationship between the <a href="https://parks.ny.gov/shpo/national-register/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">National Register</a> and the village’s <a href="https://ecode360.com/14672820" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">historic preservation ordinance</a>. Randolph R. Croxton, FAIA (Fellow of the American Institute of Architects), has called Sag Harbor home for thirty-five years and his firm, Croxton Collaborative Architects, developed the conceptual design for the Bulova Watchcase Factory and achieved the Zoning designation from commercial to residential use in 1981. Importantly, Mr. Croxton and his firm authored the Historic Structures Report for the Old Whalers Church, leading to its designation as a National Historic Landmark in 1994. Historic structures restored/renovated by his firm include the headquarters for The National Audubon Society, The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) in NYC, and the US Environmental Protection Agency in Washington, DC. Sarah Kautz is a Ph.D. candidate in Anthropology at the University of Chicago and holds a master’s degree in Anthropology with a graduate certificate in Museum Management from the University of South Carolina. Since 2016, Sarah has served as the Preservation Director at Preservation Long Island where she supports local preservation initiatives in communities throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties. In that role and amongst numerous other responsibilities, Sarah advises and supports the preservation projects of local groups, municipalities, and individuals, manages the Endangered Places List, Preservation Awards, and restrictive covenants programs.
