ABOUT THE CONFERENCE Click for CFP

The 2026 School of Social Sciences International Conference at the University of Ghana invites scholars, policymakers, and practitioners to critically engage with the theme, Beyond Boundaries: Social Science Perspectives on Identity, Innovation, Inclusion, and Climate Resilience in the Digital Age. This theme reflects the urgent need to interrogate the shifting contours of African societies amidst global technological disruption, environmental crises, and sociopolitical transformation. The conference will explore how social science research can illuminate pathways to inclusive development, democratic renewal, and climate resilience in digital era. It will provide a platform for interdisciplinary dialogue on pressing issues such as economic growth and inequality, fiscal and monetary policy, gender and disability inclusion, intra-household dynamics, youth and digital cultures, peacebuilding, indigenous knowledge systems, spirituality, urbanisation, migration, and natural resource governance. By convening diverse voices across academia and policy, the conference aims to foster knowledge exchange and generate actionable insights for Africa’s transformation in the digital age. Participants are encouraged to present research that challenges conventional paradigms and offers innovative, context-sensitive solutions to Africa’s development challenges. The sub-themes of the conference include:

1. Climate Change, Green Economy, Internal Displacement and Livelihood Challenges

2. Economic Growth, Income Inequality and Sustainable development

3. Fiscal Policy, Monetary Policy and Financial Inclusion

4. Gender, Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion

5. Technology, Artificial Intelligence, Social Media and the Youth

6. Technological innovations and SME growth.

7. Aging, Family and Intra-household Resource Allocation

8. Conflicts and Peace in the Sub-Region

9. Innovation and Methods in the Social Sciences

10. Indigenous Knowledge Systems and Communication

11. Spirituality, Religion and Development

12. Spatial Development, Urbanisation, Migration and SocialAdaptation

13. Health and Wellness, Sports Development and Education

14. Natural Resource Governance (Galamsey, Mining, Environmental Degradation)

15. Governance, Public Policy and Democracy

16. Security and Insecurity in the Sub-Region

17. Corruption, Society and Culture

We welcome contributions on the above sub-themes. However, papers that do not fall specifically within any of the sub-themes but are relevant to the conference theme are welcome.

Individual Presentations

250 words, including keywords.

Panel Sessions:

include a summary of 300 words. A panel shall comprise a minimum of three and maximum of five papers and must be aligned to one of the sub-themes. The main language of the conference is English.
