The Fifth Vital Sign: Advancing and integrating climate and health policy

Alex is the Founder, Publisher, and Editor of The Xylom, a nonprofit news outlet growing healthy, interconnected communities across the world. He covers the future of cities and environmental justice, with a focus on the American South and the Global South. His reporting surrounding false statements from the City of Atlanta regarding "Cop City" led him to being named the Atlanta Press Club's 2024 Rising Star. Born and raised in Hong Kong and fluent in Cantonese and Mandarin, Alex also recently led a team to translate the KSJ Science Editing Handbook into Chinese (Traditional and Simplified). Alex holds a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering from Georgia Tech and a master's degree in Science Writing from MIT.

Researchers from the George Mason Center for Climate Change Communication and the Yale Program on Climate Change Communication released a new article, “<a href="https://yale.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=78464048a89f4b58b97123336&id=0c5f3afe43&e=6c87b60776" title="https://yale.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=78464048a89f4b58b97123336&id=0c5f3afe43&e=6c87b60776" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Advancing and integrating climate and health policy in the United States: Insights from national policy stakeholders</a>,” in The Journal of Climate Change and Health. This research is based on interviews conducted in 2024 (prior to the Trump Administration) with a diverse group of 65 policy stakeholders working on climate or health policy and related topics, including legislative staff, civil servants, academic experts, think tank employees, and advocates.In this one-hour news webinar moderated by our Publisher and Editor, Alex Ip, two of the authors of the study, Drs. Julia Fine and Joshua Ettinger, will discuss the findings of the study, how they play out in an uncertain federal environment, and how countries in the Global South can take action.
