I have never painted before. Can I still join the class?

Yes! Many of our students come in with no artistic experience at all. You do not need skill, training, or any artistic background. Curiosity is enough. Our introductory classes give you a gentle doorway into the process if you want a place to start.

What is intuitive painting?

Intuitive Painting invites you to let your creativity lead the way as you move with color and brush in hand. In this practice, you rediscover the simple joy of expression and reconnect with your own natural, unfiltered creativity. What matters is the process itself, not the finished painting.

Do I need to bring anything?

We provide all supplies - high quality paints, brushes, paper, aprons and guidance from our experienced teachers. We also provide hot tea, hot water, and filtered water for all.  See below for recommendations on clothing. Bring your curiosity!

What should I wear?

We have aprons you can wear to protect your clothing.  We do recommend wearing clothes and shoes that you don't mind spilling paint on however, because even though we use water based tempera, some of the colors can leave behind a stain on lighter fabrics.

Is the studio wheelchair accessible?

How do I get there? Is there parking nearby?

Accepted Answer

The studio is located in Glen Park, San Francisco and is a 10 minute walk from the Glen Park Bart station. Served by MUNI lines 35 & 36, and a 5 minute walk from 49 & 14 bus lines on Mission Street. Easy neighborhood street parking is also available.

What if I feel nervous, blocked, or unsure what to paint?

Feeling blocked or unsure of what to paint next is a normal part of this process. Your facilitator will help you connect with yourself and offer gentle guidance. There is no right or wrong way to paint here.

Question 9

Will anyone see what I paint?

Accepted Answer

Yes, but only within the circle of the class. We create a very safe and respectful environment. We do not comment on, analyze, or critique each other's paintings.

Question 10

I am interested in joining online. What do I need to paint via Zoom?

Accepted Answer

For your painting setup, you can keep it simple and use whatever paints, brushes and paper you have on hand, even crayons, markers, oil pastels (craypas), pens, pencil. For guidance and recommendations on painting from home, please visit our website: www.intuitivepainting.org/painting-from-home
