Little Sound Minds: 6-Session Toddler Music & Emotional Skills Series

Little Sound Minds: 6-Session Toddler Music & Emotional Skills Series

Overview

A 6-month music + movement series for toddlers (18 mo–4 yrs) & caregivers building emotional skills through live music, storytime, and play

Six months. Six themes. One class your toddler will ask to go back to every time. 🎶

Little Sound Minds is a monthly music and movement class for toddlers (18 months–4 years) and their caregivers designed by a licensed child psychologist to build real emotional skills through the joy of live music, storytime, and play.

This isn't a performance you watch. You and your toddler make music together and you both go home with something real.

📅 The 6-Session Series

Each session is 45 minutes, held once a month at My Good Brain Creative Studio in Liberty Station. Every class introduces a new emotional theme and a new coping skill, building on the one before it. The full arc:

  • Session 1 · March 19 · Hello, Sound! Your toddler gets a musical name, explores live instruments, and learns their first calm-down tool.
  • Session 2 · April 15 · Friends & Feelings Turn-taking, storytime about friendship, and a tool for when feelings get big around others.
  • Session 3 · May 13 · Big Feelings Big music, big movement, and a gentle path back to calm.
  • Session 4 · June 25 · We Are the Same, We Are Different Music from many places, a story about belonging, and a moment to find stillness together.
  • Session 5 · July 16 · I Can Do Hard Things A challenge, a story about trying again, and a chant your toddler will use all week.
  • Session 6 · August 27 · We Made Music Together The kids lead the class. Every family leaves with a keepsake card and all 5 tools from the series.

🥁 What happens in every session

Every Little Sound Minds class follows the same warm, predictable arc — so toddlers always know what comes next, and can relax into the joy of it:

🎤 Greeting Circle — your child's name is sung back to them, just for them, every single class

🎸 Instrument Exploration + Live Music — free play with drums, shakers, and bells while an MGB volunteer musician plays live

📖 Storytime + Feeling Check-In — a picture book matched to the month's emotional theme

🌬️ Coping Skill — one new, age-appropriate tool each month (breathing, movement, self-talk, and more)

💃 Dance Party — live music, a freeze-dance game, and caregiver-toddler partner movement

📋 Home Practice Card — one simple thing to try together at home before the next session

👨‍👩‍👧 Who is this for?

Little Sound Minds is for toddlers ages 18 months to 4 years and their caregivers: parents, grandparents, nannies, and family friends are all warmly welcome.

Caregiver participation is required, and it's half the magic. You'll dance, play instruments, and practice coping skills alongside your child. Research consistently shows toddlers build emotional skills most deeply when their favorite grown-up is present and engaged. Yes, that means you have to do the freeze dance.

This series is especially wonderful for:

💛 Toddlers navigating big feelings: tantrums, transitions, separation nerves

💛 Caregivers who want practical, research-backed tools to use at home

💛 Families looking for a consistent monthly rhythm and a warm community to belong to

💛 Little ones who love music, movement, and being seen

🧠 Why Little Sound Minds is different

Most toddler music classes are built around musical development. Little Sound Minds is built around emotional development with music as the vehicle.

Every element of class is intentional. The sung name greeting builds identity and belonging. The musician's dynamics model emotional states in real time. The storytime opens language for feelings. The coping skill gives toddlers a tool they can actually use. The Home Practice Card brings it all home.

This curriculum was designed by My Good Brain's founder, a licensed clinical psychologist, drawing on research from early childhood music education pioneers Joan Koenig (The Musical Child), Music Together, and Kindermusik. It's the only toddler music class in San Diego rooted in child psychology.
