Sports have come full circle. The Oklahoma band hinges on the lifelong friendship between Christian Theriot and Cale Chronister, two musicians who met as kids and instinctively bonded. Finding viral success with their shimmering indie pop sound, they’ve released three acclaimed albums, each refining their signature blend of heartfelt songwriting and glossy production. With their new self-titled record, Sports return to their roots — self-produced, self-recorded, and fully their own.

Back in their Tulsa hometown, the band built their own studio from scratch, covering the floor in Astroturf from a local sports pitch — a playful nod to their name. Arranging their instruments in a circle, they recorded together live, capturing everything from the hum of traffic to the energy of collaboration. “Listening back to the record is the most creatively fulfilled I’ve ever felt,” Christian shares.

Their latest single, “If You Want Me,” captures the band’s maturity and confidence, pairing lush melodies with themes of growth and long-term love. The record also features “Nice To Meet Myself (Bang Bang Bang),” a stadium-sized pop anthem about self-discovery, and “Jelly,” a fan-favorite born from their Twitch livestream sessions. The result is an album that’s equal parts playful, vulnerable, and bold.

After ten years of evolution, Sports continue to build a devoted fanbase through creativity and authenticity. “We’ve known each other since middle school,” Christian reflects. “And we’re still doing it. To me, we’re just getting started.”
