Learn the basics of grass identification with Liz Makings!

In this EcoQuestions session we hear from <a href="https://sols.asu.edu/elizabeth-makings" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Liz Makings</a>, the Collections Manager of the Arizona State University (ASU) Herbarium.Grass identification can be notoriously difficult, and Liz is known as the go to person for grasses in our area. She co-authored <a href="https://biokic.asu.edu/sites/default/files/desert_plants_vol29-2_nagrasslands-_brown_makings.pdf" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">A Guide to North American Grasslands</a> and is the point person for local floristic expertise, responding to inquiries and requests from faculty, students, and the general public on a daily basis. Liz teaches botany classes at ASU such as Arizona Flora, Grasses of Arizona, and Sonoran Desert Field Botany, mentors students, supervises interns and volunteers, and regularly conducts field work with students and colleagues.Join us to learn the basics of grass identification with Liz!Materials: Please have a few different grasses to look at during this virtual event. Only take grasses where you have permission. Be sure to have all parts of the grass, including some roots if you can, and pull from areas that have more than a few plants.EcoQuestions are presentations and Q&amp;A sessions with scientists, experts or community members focused on the monthly EcoQuest topic.
