Tamba-Sasayama is a UNESCO Creative City of Craft and Folk art in the Hyogo prefecture of Japan near Kyoto. Tamba ware (Tamba Yaki)was established at the end of the Heian period (around the second half of the 12th century). In the Middle Ages, pots, jars, and bowls were produced with a bright brown color resembling natural scenery on the surface of the vessel. This occurred when the ash of the firewood in the kiln fell and melted on the vessel and became a natural glaze called moegiiro. In the early Edo period, the surface of the vessel was coated with a decorative clay with a high iron content, called "red clay (akadobe),” which is still in use today. Tamba-Sasayama is home to the oldest of Japan's six ancient kilns was certified as a Japan Heritage Site in 2017.Tatsuya Ichino has followed his father’s tradition of specializing in traditional Tamba ware pots for wildflowers called denichibachi. The design of each pot is different depending on the characteristic needs of the wildflower. You need as many types of pots as there are types of flowers, and a difference of 1.3 cm in height or a few millimeters in diameter can make a difference in the number of flowers. ``If a flower pot stands out, it's no good. It's important how beautiful the flowers look. My father has always told me to make something that can replace the mountains. They are flowers that were brought to earth from the mountains. I was asked to make a pot that resembles the mountain environment. It's difficult, but it's fun."
