Overview

Curriculum developed by Recovery Coach University; Facilitated by Lori Drescher, CARC, RCP, Member, MINT; Founder RCU.

Medication Supporter Recovery (MSR, formerly MAT) is an important component of addiction treatment modalities and recovery pathways. This 1/2 day workshop offers recovery coaches and peer recovery professionals the opportunity to understand and explore the realities, myths, and stigmas in support of addiction treatment and sustained recovery.  In addition to commonly known and prescribed therapies, we will also explore the growing field of harm reduction and alternative therapies.  Importantly, this workshop provides recovery support professionals the opportunity to explore their own biases and perspectives toward this often-stigmatized recovery pathway. “You Are In Recovery When You Say You Are.”  - CCAR Recovery Coach Academy

Learning Objectives Include:

  • Review the Peer Recovery Core Principles that support MSR
  • Learn why Stigmatizing Language contributes to Poor Treatment Access & Engagement
  • Understand the Mainstream Approved Medications used to treat Nicotine Addiction, Alcohol Use Disorder, and Opioid Use Disorder
  • Learn about various MOUD agonists, partial agonists, and antagonists, and how they work in the brain when treating OUD
  • Identify Alternative Medications and Holistic Therapies
  • Understand the role of Harm Reduction in Recovery
  •  Understand why Advocacy and Suspension of Bias are our two Best Tools in supporting a Recoveree with MSR choices
