​The East Oakland Collective (EOC) is a member-based community organizing group invested in serving the communities of deep East Oakland by working towards racial and economic equity. With programming in economic development, civic engagement and leadership, homeless services and solutions, we help amplify underserved communities from the ground up.  We are committed to driving impact in the landscape, politics and economic climate of deep East Oakland. ​

Come and join us as we celebrate the 4th Annual CA Clean Air Day. California Clean Air Day is built on the idea that shared experiences unite people to action to improve our community health. By joining together for a unified day of action we can create new habits to clear the air for all members of California’s diverse communities.This three part event consists of a bike ride starting from Liberation Park, a clean up at the intersecting creek, and a resource fair with free food, music and raffles. Feel free to RSVP even if you can only join us for one part of the event.The East Oakland Collective (EOC) has taken the Clean Air Day Pledge in partnership with the East Bay Regional Park District (EBRPD), Oakland Dept of Transportation (OakDOT), Higher Ground, and additional community based organizations to unite East Oakland communities to highlight biking as a cleaner option to access Martin Luther King Jr. Shoreline. Martin Luther King Jr. Regional Shoreline is a 748-acre park located in deep East Oakland near Oakland International Airport and bordered by San Leandro Bay. A beautiful green space to enjoy self, nature, water activities and more.

<h3>Bike Ride Route and Schedule (Liberation Park to MLK Jr. Shoreline)</h3>Please bring your own personal bike to ride!This bike route was chosen to highlight goals of the<a href="https://www.eastoaklandcollective.com/power-the-people-project.html" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer"> Power the Power: Martin Luther King Jr. Shoreline Access Study</a>, a project to engage residents to identify which clean mobility options would best support them in accessing the shoreline.Bike mechanics and marshals will join us on the ride and bike valet will be provided at the park.Getting to the shoreline:11:00 am - Meet at Liberation Park (6955 Foothill Blvd, Oakland, CA 94605) for instructions, safety review, and snacks11:15 am - Ride Out12:00 pm - End at MLK Jr. Shoreline Tern BBQ SiteGetting back home: 1:40 pm - Bike marshal will gather riders for departure 2:00 pm - Leave MLK Jr. Shoreline Tern BBQ Site2:30 pm - End at the Coliseum BART Station

<h3>Creek Clean Up (Tern Site at MLK Jr. Shoreline)</h3>There are several creeks that pour into the Bay at the MLK Jr. Shoreline. We choose to clean a portion of the San Leandro (Lisjan) Creek in order to bring awareness to the current <a href="https://www.browerdellumsinstitute.org/vision" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">bike and pedestrian trail project</a> happening to increase access to the shoreline from East Oakland neighborhoods as deep as Sobrante Park. Getting to the clean up/resource fair by personal car or ride share: <ol><li>Enter at 1 Swan Way, Oakland, CA 94621 </li><li>Continue driving until you reach the third and last parking lot. </li><li>Walk into the park near the big brown observation structure and restrooms</li><li>Arrive at Tern BBQ site</li></ol>Getting to the clean up/resource fair by bus: <ol><li>Starting from the Coliseum BART Station</li><li>Take the 73 Bus heading toward the Oakland Airport</li><li>Get off at Leet Drive (Shell gas station)</li><li>Heading towards the Oakland Airport, cross the street, walk over the creek</li><li>Turn right at the San Leandro Creek Staging Area sign</li><li>Walk about 0.5 mile straight, turn left at the deck</li><li>Follow the path to the grass area</li><li>Arrive at Tern BBQ site</li></ol><h3>Party in the Park (Tern Site at MLK Jr. Shoreline)</h3>The resource fair will highlight ongoing East Oakland based projects, programs and plans to improve our individual and collective mobility, health and safety and wellness. Come enjoy free food, music played by DJ Outta Pocket, games for kids, raffle prizes and more.VolunteersWe are accepting volunteer support for the event.
