Community Workday at Girard Children's Garden!

City Blossoms is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that cultivates the well-being of our communities through creative kid-driven gardens.Since 2008, City Blossoms has designed, developed, collaborated on, and provided programming or trainings for over 100 projects throughout Washington, DC and nationwide. Our work serves Black, Latino, and children of immiagrant backgrounds, ages 2-19.Applying our unique brand of gardens, science, art, healthy living, and community building, we "blossom" in neighborhoods where kids, their families, and neighbors may not otherwise have access to green spaces. Workday Details: This garden is getting a major makeover this year. This community workday is part of a series of maintenance days to help re-establish the garden. Volunteers will convene within the space to do a quick introduction with our staff members. Tasks for this day will include installing new infrastructure, pathways, and signage; planting seeds and seedlings; and re-establishing some of our favorite kid-friendly sections within this garden.Please dress in outdoor work clothes you don’t mind getting dirty, closed toe shoes, and a face mask. Everyone is encouraged to bring water bottles. City Blossoms will provide all gloves and tools. Please note that we will work rain or shine, unless otherwise specified. Additional Health &amp; Safety Guidelines:City Blossoms takes the safety and health of our staff, volunteers, and neighbors very seriously. As a team, we have been practicing social distancing and working remotely except when necessary for maintaining our gardens. To ensure that our Workdays are safe, we use the following precautions:<ul><li>Masks are required by all participants</li><li>Hand washing is available onsite and is required when participants enter the site</li><li>3 feet of distance is maintained between event participants</li><li>Hand sanitizer and wipes are readily available</li><li>Participants should bring their own water bottles, which can be refilled inside the recreation center</li></ul> Please visit our <a href="https://cityblossoms.org/covid19-safety" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">COVID-19 Safety Updates &amp; Guidelines</a> page to learn more.Parking/Metro Instructions: There is very limited, zoned street parking in the surrounding neighborhood of Columbia Heights. Bicycles can be locked to the garden&#x27;s fence or bike racks inside the surrounding park. This garden is a 7-minute walk from the Columbia Heights Metro (yellow/green line). It’s also accessible via the 52, 54 buses (14th St. &amp; Harvard) or the H1, H2, H3, H4 buses (14th St. &amp; Columbia Rd.)
