Founded in 2010 by W.S. Merwin, The Merwin Conservancy is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that inspires innovation in the arts and sciences by advancing the ideas of W.S. Merwin – his life, work, house and palm forest – as fearless and graceful examples of the power of imagination and renewal.To fulfill this mission, the Conservancy maintains the house and palm forest as a place of stillness and reflection for retreat, study, and contemplation through a residency program for creative visionaries and thought leaders from Hawaii and across the world. We engage both local and global communities through our Green Room literary and environmental salon series, through dynamic multimedia storytelling projects, and through innovative collaborations with various artistic, scientific and educational leaders and institutions.

Thank you!<a href="http://merwinconservancy.org/" title="http://merwinconservancy.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">The Merwin Conservancy</a> will present a reading and talk with award-winning visual artist, poet, and novelist Rachel Eliza Griffiths in partnership with the <a href="https://www.huinoeau.com/" title="https://www.huinoeau.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Hui No'eau Visual Arts Center</a>. Griffiths will share insights into her work both as a visual artist and writer. This program is part of The Merwin Conservancy’s series of popular arts and ecology literary events known as <a href="https://merwinconservancy.org/programs/#the-green-room" title="https://merwinconservancy.org/programs/#the-green-room" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">The Green Room</a>. The program will be followed by a book signing and light refreshments. The <a href="https://www.huinoeau.com/art-events/2025/8/hui-holidays-2025" title="https://www.huinoeau.com/art-events/2025/8/hui-holidays-2025" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Hui Holidays</a> exhibition will be open until 8 PM.<a href="https://www.rachelelizagriffiths.com/" title="https://www.rachelelizagriffiths.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Rachel Eliza Griffiths</a> is a poet, visual artist, and novelist. She is the recipient of the Hurston/Wright Foundation Legacy Award and the Paterson Poetry Prize and was a finalist for the NAACP Image Award. Griffiths is also a recipient of fellowships from many organizations, including Civitella Ranieri, Kimbilio, Cave Canem Foundation, Provincetown Fine Arts Work Center, the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation, and Yaddo. Her work has been published in The New York Times, The New Yorker, the Paris Review, Tin House, Best American Poetry, and other publications. Her debut novel, Promise, was a Kirkus Reviews and Chicago Public Library Best Book of the Year. Griffiths' debut memoir, The Flower Bearers (Random House), is forthcoming in January.
