Indiana Audubon Winter Eagle Watch: Salamonie

Indiana Audubon Society

Seek out some great Bald Eagle photography opportunities with Indiana Audubon.

Lost Bridge Rd Boat Ramp Parking Lot

Join Indiana Audubon for a special look at the winter spectacle of eagles along the upper Wabash River and reservoir floodplains. Over the past decade, northern Indiana has seen a significant increase in wintering Bald Eagles. Today, this region rivals other prominent Indiana wintering sites, boasting impressive numbers. Some counts exceed 100 birds in a morning! This special field trip will meet at Lost Bridge Rd Boat Ramp Parking Lot (8620 W 400 S Andrews, IN 46702) on Saturday, January 17th, at 2 p.m. ET. From there we'll caravan to a few areas to view both feeding and roosting eagles. This outing will spend more time at individual eagle sites to maximize photography opportunities, compared to our other eagle-watching trips. The trip is led annually by Indiana Audubon member and birder April Raver and lasts about three hours.
Registration
Pre-registration is required, as these annual eagle-watching field trips fill quickly and participation is limited to 20 people. Registration costs $5 for Indiana Audubon members and $10 for non-members. Most birding will occur from vehicles or at short roadside stops. Some stops may require stepping onto paved or compacted gravel surfaces. Modern restrooms (flush toilets and showers) are available in the Lost Bridge West area, while primitive restrooms are in more remote sites. Benches or seating at viewing points may be limited. Dress for winter weather birding.
Questions
For any questions about this event email info@indianaaudubon.org or call 765-205-1255.
