Lake Wales Ridge Ecosystem Working Group Fall Meeting

The mission of the Lake Wales Ridge Ecosystem Working Group is to ensure the long-term protection of the native plants, animals and natural communities of this unique region of Florida.  Members accomplish this by encouraging information exchange, promoting research, sharing plans and solutions, coordinating training, and fostering public awareness and support.

Join the Lake Wales Ridge Ecosystem Working Group as we discuss novel ways of achieving conservation in Florida. We will hear information regarding easements and how they can allow for working lands to continue to work but also preserve Florida's rich natural life and history. We will also hear from a reporter for the Tampa Bay Times, someone who speaks for the trees and bees, ensuring that their voice is heard by the public. Finally, we will hear from a burgeoning payment for ecosystem services program, providing a landowner with financial incentive to manage an area for a very charismatic species. You’ll have to attend to find out the species! The meeting will end with an optional acquisition sub-committee meeting. This is an informal gathering of personnel involved in conservation acquisition. We hope to speak on regional efforts and provide a hub for information on conservation efforts in and around the Lake Wales Ridge.The meeting will be held in the Magnolia Room at Bok Tower. Registration will begin at 9:00am with talks starting at 9:30. Snacks and coffee will be provided. Lunch will be on your own.
