Overview

Learn about the history of Memento Mori and create your own painting with instructions from Veronica Batter of Rockdale Art Center!

Nothing says Halloween like skulls and coffins! Join us for a spooky good time as we explore the history of death imagery in art.

Memento mori (Latin for 'remember you must die') is an artistic or symbolic reminder of the inevitability of death, and was often expressed in art and jewelry with images of skulls, coffins, hourglasses and wilting flowers. Using a 16x20" canvas, participants can use these various symbols to create their own unique works of art using acrylic paint under expert guidance.

All materials are provided for this 2 - 2.5 hour workshop, which is perfect for beginner and intermediate painters who love history. Ages 14 and up. This event is BYOB, so bring your favorite wine, beer and snacks and we'll supply the cups, plates, napkins, and openers! We do not provide ice or utensils, and guests MUST be 21 to consume alcohol. We reserve the right to ask for ID.

Your instructor, Veronica Batter, is Director of the Rockdale Art Center and a member of the Steering Committee for the Delaware County Arts Consortium.

Admission fees directly benefit the educational mission of the Chester County History Center. Tickets are nonrefundable.

In light of recent Covid-19 developments, we strongly encourage attendees to wear a mask while not eating or drinking, regardless of vaccination status. Workspaces will be socially distanced.
