Stravinsky’s Soldier’s Tale is compelling fusion of chamber music, theater, and storytelling. Written for a small ensemble and narrator, this quintessential Faustian work follows a soldier who trades his soul (represented by his violin) to the Devil – only to discover the true cost of ambition and desire.Audiences can expect an immersive performance where live narration and music unfold side by side, each instrument shaping the drama in real time. Stravinsky’s vivid score shifts between marches, dances, and sharply etched rhythmic scenes, performed by an intimate ensemble that draws listeners into the story’s unfolding tension. Spoken word and music intertwine throughout, creating a theatrical concert experience that is playful, haunting, and deeply human.This program is supported in part by a grant from the Needham Council for Arts and Culture, a local agency which is supported by the Town of Needham and the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.
