These aren’t just unfortunate circumstances - they are structural costs that add up to what Anna Gifty Opoku-Agyeman calls The Double Tax.Anna, a doctoral student in public policy and economics at Harvard Kennedy School, Ford Foundation Fellow, and National Science Foundation Fellow, joins us to reveal how these hidden costs shape lives and futures - and what can be done to challenge them. Her acclaimed new book, The Double Tax: How Women of Color Are Overcharged and Underpaid, with a foreword from Chelsea Clinton, combines data, storytelling, and lived experiences to expose the invisible economic toll carried by women, especially women of colour.Anna brings both academic depth and an urgent personal lens to this conversation. Her research and advocacy have made her a sought-after speaker and writer on inequality, policy, and the future of working systems.The Double Tax reveals how overlapping biases around race and gender impose compounded costs in everything from beauty standards and education to housing, care work, and professional advancement.
