Create a calaca cartonería (papier-mâché skeleton) out of household materials in a four-day in-person workshop with artist William Acedo. For generations, artists have made Papier-Mâché Skeletons inspired by Felipe Linares’ cartonerías—sculptured objects made from papier-mâché to celebrate the Day Of The Dead. Your calacas will be included as part of the Self Help Graphics Day of the Dead celebration!By registering for this workshop, you commit to participate on Friday, October 8 at 7:00 p.m. and Thursdays October 14, 21 and 28 at 7:00 p.m.Sign up as an individual or with a partner or a small group to create a calaca together. Due to the time intensive process, only one calaca will be created per group with a maximum of 10 calacas. Fee: $25 per person. All materials will be provided. Open to participants 12 years of age and up. Disclaimer: Participants who register for the Dancing Calacas workshop must attend all four dates. Additionally, we are asking participants to loan their calaca to SHG for the celebration on October 30th. Masks required.
