Since 1973,Self Help Graphics & Art(SHG)has produced more than 2,000 art print editions, including 62 Professional Marking Program ateliers and exhibitions all over the world. The organization remains dedicated to the production, interpretation, and distribution of prints and other art media by Chicana/o and Latinx artists; and its multidisciplinary, intergenerational programs promote artistic excellence and empower community by providing access to working space, tools, training and beyond. Self Help Graphics & Art

Join us every Saturday in October for workshops led by our artists to create works for  Dia de los Muertos!

The season begins Saturday, October 2, with our traditional Día de los Muertos free family workshops! Learn the art of Papel Picado with Artist, Marisela Sosa. Enjoy the meditative practice of making Marigold Paper Flowers with Artist, Dewey Tafoya, and learn about Paper Mache skeleton sculptures with Artist Ezria Torres**! All of our free family workshops will take place at Self Help Graphics on October 2, 9, 16, and 23 from 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. In addition to our traditional Day of the Dead workshops, our Commemorative Print Artist, Miyo Stevens-Gandara and Artist Wayne Perry, have teamed to offer a free one-day workshop on October 2 from 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. at Self Help Graphics, where participants will activate a Memorial Tree Project; a living memorial, with small ceramic plates with their messages to commemorate losses the community has suffered these past two years. The ceramic notes will serve to process loss and grief or to express hopes for the future. The Memorial Tree Project, a symbol of endurance and perseverance, will be a permanent installation at SHG.*See separate listing to sign up for William Acedo&#x27;s Dancing Calacas four-part workshop.**Only participants who have already started a paper mache calaca as of Oct 9th may continue this activity. No new calacas will be started on Oct 16th or 23rd. Registration and masks are required to participate. No experience is necessary to join.
