Whistler seemed to live to shock. But rather than empty, his upsets were full of spectacular art—images that challenge how we see our everyday world. Through a close look at three art-filled scandals, we will uncover how Whistler helped invent modern art language and the very idea of the independent artist.</p><p> John Singer Sargent did not court controversy, but it found him anyway. While not born in the U.S., Sargent identified as American and as a result, experienced being an outsider in Venice, Madrid, Paris and London where he painted his iconic works. His quest to be inside led to his greatest scandal and his remarkable comeback. It will be available to view for 2 weeks after the live event. If you do not receive the link to the recording a couple of hours after the live event please email us—sometimes Eventbrite emails can get lost in spam/social folders.</p><h3>What time zone is the event scheduled in?</h3><p>The event is scheduled for 2pm EST (i.e. New York time). You can watch it in any time zone but please adjust to the time zone you are in.</p><h3>Refund policy?</h3><p>Refunds are available up to the start time of the event. After the start time, refunds are only available if you have been unable to access the event.</p>
