Overview

Urban Folk and Jazz

Tompkins Corners Cultural Center will welcome KJ Denhert & The NY Unit back to our stage for the third time. A celebrated NYC songwriter, guitarist, vocalist, and bandleader, KJ has been captivating audiences worldwide for more than four decades.

KJ calls her sound “urban folk and jazz,” but that hardly contains it—her music weaves together the many genres that shaped her life. With a smoky, soulful voice, fiery guitar, and stories that cut to the heart, she’s a consummate performer.

A prolific recording artist, KJ has released ten albums. Her eleventh, The Evening News, is a deeply personal collection of songs reflecting the stories and influences that shaped her remarkable journey.

Holding a twenty-plus-year residency at NYC’s iconic 55 Bar, she captivated crowds with her all-star band until the venue’s closure in 2022. Today, she continues to electrify audiences with monthly residencies at Arthur’s Tavern in the West Village and Sunny's in Brooklyn.

KJ has created a unique aesthetic that resonates broadly. Pondering it all, she says, “I am humble about my career, but I can say I have enough because I have such complete freedom.”
