The Jarvis Square Pottery Studio is an acoustically and socially friendly place for small intimate concerts. The <a href="https://www.eartaxifestival.com/spotlight-concerts" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Ear Taxi Spotlight Concerts</a> share my interest in the unique character of my neighborhood, one among the many rich and diverse urban sound environments and cultures across Chicago. Over the years since I built the Springboard in 1994, I’ve been honored to perform on it with many different and highly creative sound artists and musicians. One honor came in 2017 when fellow composer, sound artist, and author Cathy van Eck wrote, “This instrument is an excellent example of how the simple addition of a contact microphone can create a beautiful sonic phantasmagoria out of ordinary objects. When you look at the instrument, you can see all kind of familiar objects such as pieces of wood, combs, coil springs, a metal grill, a tin can lid and large rubber bands. The sounds produced by these ordinary objects are often of a surprisingly complex and varied nature. About Ear Taxi Festival Spotlight ConcertsEar Taxi Spotlight concerts are self-produced events taking place all around Chicago, giving voice to the city’s exciting and remarkably broad array of musical styles, artistic practices, genres, and ensembles. Spotlight concerts take place September 15 through to September 29, prior to the Ear Taxi Festival Mainstage concerts from September 30 to October 4, 2021. BioEric Leonardson, a Chicago-based audio artist, performs internationally with the Springboard, a self-built instrument made in 1994. He also creates field recordings and soundscape composition and often presents on acoustic ecology to new audiences beyond art world contexts, engaging and connecting communities in the interrelated aspects of sound, listening, and environment. As a performer, composer, and sound designer, Leonardson created music and sound for the Chicago based physical theater company Plasticene (1995-2012). He serves as President of the World Listening Project, President of the Midwest Society for Acoustic Ecology, and President of the World Forum for Acoustic Ecology. He is Associate Professor Adjunct in the Department of Sound at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC).
