Public Programs

Come and join the Delaware Center for the Inland Bays during one (or more!) of our public programs! Programs are suitable for kids of all ages. Registration is required for certain programs.

Discover the power of the oyster! Sometimes referred to as “ecosystem engineers” or “vacuums of the bay,” oysters play a critical role in keeping our bays clean. They also provide structural support for reefs for additional marine life. Participants will get a closer look at these bivalves in action, watching as they filter water. People will also explore the beach, where they will catch and observe other filter feeding organisms.Perfect for participants of all ages! Kids’ Days offer children the opportunity to connect with nature through hands-on learning and exploration.Participants will be in and around the water, so please wear clothes and shoes that can get wet and sandy. Closed-toe shoes are encouraged. Don’t forget to bring water, sunscreen, and insect repellent, as the Preserve can be buggy at times. We’ll walk approximately 0.5 miles to and from the beach, with the majority of the program spent wading in the water at the beach. Important Notes:Participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times. This program is weather permitting.Attendance is free, but registration is encouraged. We reserve the right to turn away walk-ups if necessary. For the privacy and comfort of our participants, staff, and volunteers, video or audio recording is not permitted during our programs. Guests are welcome to take photographs, but we ask that you do so in a way that respects the privacy of others. Thank you for helping us keep our programs safe and welcoming for everyone. Support the Delaware Center for the Inland Bays:As you may know, recent federal changes may impact our funding, which currently accounts for nearly 60% of our budget. While challenges lie ahead, our commitment to preserving and restoring the Inland Bays remains strong. Your support is more important than ever. If you’re able, please consider making a donation to help us continue this vital work.
