As always, our goal is to excite students about agriculture and science, reveal future opportunities in those fields, and foster a love of learning which will promote agriculture and good stewardship in this and future generations. This year we are offering Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) certification to youths who attend and complete all classes. Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) is a program that provides information to U.S. beef producers on how good husbandry techniques can be coupled with accepted scientific knowledge to raise cattle under optimum management conditions.

It is everyone's responsibility (no matter if they raise one beef animal or a thousand) to ensure product safety and wholesomeness to the beef consumer. While adults are highly encouraged to attend BQA training, at this field day only youths aged 18 and under are eligible to receive the BQA certification due to the length of the training. Youth who participate in the Florida State Fair Steer Program receive Champion Youth Points for being BQA certified. BQA certifications are active for 3 years.

For this in-person event, everyone attending must purchase a ticket (students and adults), so we have plenty of space for the groups to travel by wagon and space in classrooms. Adults who don't want to purchase a ticket are welcome to wait on their students at the assembly area.

A participant consent, release and waiver of liability must be completed for everyone (students and adults) attending. Each adult must submit their own form. An adult attending with their children can include their children on their form (up to 5 minors can be included with 1 adult submission). If minors will be coming with you that are not your children, have their parent or guardian complete the online form for them. Click here for the online form:
When you register, you will receive this link in your confirmation e-mail.

This year's image (below) is last year's winning t-shirt design. Shirts will be sage green, made and imprinted by Magnolia Loom, 100% USA made with Florida or Georgia grown cotton. They can be pre-ordered when you register prior to May 15. Those will be available for pickup at the field day. Orders placed after that date will be shipped mid-July.

Frequently asked questions

Who attends this event?

Students ages 8 to 18 with their parent(s) or a 4-H or FFA youth leader.

What would be helpful for me to know about attending?

Come ready to learn and ask questions. Be prepared to do some walking. Dress appropriately for an outdoor summer event, it will likely be hot.

Do adults need to register?

Yes, if they plan to go to each of the classes, they must register along with their students. This is necessary to ensure that there is enough seats on the tour wagon that will transport groups between some classes and so there is enough seating at classes.

What is the t-shirt design contest all about?

A few year's back one of our staff suggested we do a contest each year to find a cool design for the following year's t-shirt. It stuck! This will be the 4th year of the contest. Anyone can enter a design. Entries must be submitted by 6/3. For all the details e-mail, ona@ifas.ufl.edu.

I want to bring a group and pay by check. How do I get an invoice and submit payment?

E-mail ona@ifas.ufl.edu and we will let you know what information we will need from all of your attendees. Once that is provided, we'll send you an invoice and you can pay by check at the event.

Is there any difference in the groups (Baford, Brahman, Angus, etc.)?

No. All groups are a mixture of students of different ages with their parents or youth leaders. All learn the same information.
