In the District of Columbia, sports betting can be conducted in any type of business and that creates a terrific opportunity for restaurants, bars, and local stores to add a new experience for their customers. Come and learn more about the Class B license and certified business enterprises (CBEs) application processes. The session will include information about how to become a CBE. You will hear from Brian Vasile, owner of Grand Central LLC, who is in the process of restructuring his successful Adams Morgan restaurant into the District's first locally-owned sports book. Peter Alvarado, from the Office of Lottery and Gaming (OLG), will provide information on the requirements for opening a Class B sports betting operation. Brian Vasile, owner of Grand Central LLC, a very successful Adams Morgan restaurant which is also the District’s first CBE to add sports wagering to their operations. With over 30 years' experience, Brian is an eminent figure in the District’s food and beverage industry, with a reputation for integrity, compassion and business savvy. Matteo Monteverdi is formerly CEO and President and currently Head of Special Projects of Elys Game Technology. Elys will serve as the management service provider to the Grand Central sports book. Elys provides Class B Operators a state-of-the-art betting platform, capable of processing any type of digital game content from integrated sports and virtual betting solutions to any third-party content. This Nasdaq-listed company is a B2B global gaming technology company and operates in multiple countries worldwide. It also has B2C online and land-based gaming operations in Italy.Peter Alvarado is the Director of the Office of Lottery and Gaming’s Regulation and Oversight Division. In this role he oversees the licensing, compliance and enforcement of sports wagering in the District of Columbia. He brings over 25 years of experience in the areas of investigation and regulatory compliance. Prior to his current role, Peter was the Casino Compliance Officer with the San Manuel Casino where he oversaw compliance with the anti-money laundering (“AML”) regulations and other federal and state regulatory requirements. He is also the former Deputy Director at the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (“FinCEN”), where he provided operational leadership across all the core mission activities relating to compliance, enforcement, policy and financial intelligence.
