Dr. Spitters has been the health officer for the Snohomish Health District since June 2019. He has served as the District’s contracted physician for tuberculosis control since 2001 and previously served as the District’s deputy health officer from 1994 to 1999. He earned his medical degree from Stanford University. He completed residency training in general preventive medicine and public health at Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene & Public Health and has been certified by the American Board of Preventive Medicine since 1994.
Heather Thomas has more than 15 years of experience in strategic communications and community outreach, largely in the public sector. She is responsible for communications and government relations with the Snohomish Health District, as well as managing the agency’s policy and grant initiatives. Heather holds a Masters in Public Administration from Seattle University and a Masters in Communications from San Diego State University. She is past-president for the Washington State Public Health Association, and serves as Co-Chair of the Public Health Communications Working Group for the National Association of City and County Health Officials. Heather is also an LSC graduate from the Class of 2018 and currently serves on the Education Day Committee.
