In a site-specific, immersive live performance, native Houston dancer Isabel Wallace-Green responds to The Blaffer Art Museum and Texas Southern University’s Jamal Cyrus: The End of My Beginning. The site-specific program moves through the galleries as audiences engage with both Cyrus’ exhibition and Wallace-Green’s performance simultaneously.Wallace-Green's performance showcases a series of self-choreographed solos inspired by themes of African American identity, resilience, and culture—ideas existing in and around her, a biracial black American artist physically embedded in the exhibition. Audiences will experience this immersive multimedia collaboration through musical, contextual, and visceral motifs coursing throughout the evening.Isabel Wallace-Green is a Dancer, Performer, and Arts Educator who began dancing in her hometown at Houston Ballet Academy. She later attended St. John’s School before graduating summa cum laude from Fordham University/The Ailey School with a dual degree BFA in Dance and African/African American Studies. Isabel broadened her dance training at programs with Boston Ballet School, Dance Theatre of Harlem, Kyle Abraham’s Abraham.In.Motion, Galen Hooks Method, and the Radio City Rockettes. She has performed works by Alvin Ailey, Harrison Guy, and Rennie Harris among others. She has danced professionally with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, New Chamber Ballet, Urban Souls Dance Company, Dance Afrikana, DBDT: Encore and as an ensemble member of the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. Isabel currently begins her first season as a company member with Dallas Black Dance Theatre. Daughter to TSU professor and artist Leamon Green and private high school art teacher Susan Wallace, Isabel grew up surrounded by culturally diverse art and art-lovers. Consequently, her passion is rooted in the intersection of dance and social justice. She has taught and served on faculty at studios throughout New York City, Houston, and Dallas and currently is a faculty member at Chamberlain School of Ballet. Most notably, Isabel seeks to perform and work in spaces that advance inclusion, accessibility, and representation within the performing arts while exploring and bringing light to the fascinating resilience of African America through movement.
