Doug Boyd Ph.D.serves as the director of theLouie B. Nunn Center for Oral History at the University of Kentucky Librariesand is a recent president of the Oral History Association. Boyd manages theOral History in the Digital Agecollaborative initiative publishing current best practices and models for collecting, curating and disseminating oral histories.  Additionally, Boyd leads the team at the University of Kentucky that envisioned, designed and implemented the open source and freeOHMS system, which synchronizes text with audio and video online.Boyd is the co-editor (with Mary A. Larson) of the bookOral History and Digital Humanities: Voice, Access, and Engagementpublished by Palgrave MacMillan in 2014, and he is the author of the bookCrawfish Bottom: Recovering a Lost Kentucky Communitywhich was published in August 2011 by the University Press of Kentucky.  He authors the blogDigital Omnium: Oral History, Archives, and Digital Technologyand is the author of numerous articles pertaining to oral history, archives and digital technologies.

A general  introduction to OHMS (Oral History Metadata Synchronizer).

Webinar participants will get an introduction to OHMS (Oral History Metadata Synchronizer) and its capabilities. They will learn the basics of getting started using OHMS, creating new records, synchronizing transcripts, indexing interviews, and installing and configuring the OHMS Viewer.Finally, the webinar will provide a space for participants to discuss and ask questions. Additionally, this webinar will explore the exciting and powerful integration of the OHMS Application into the Aviary platform and explore new and upcoming features.This webinar is hosted via Zoom; however, you will receive your ticket information and links to the webinar through Eventbrite. You may be asked to set up a free Eventbrite account to access the webinar page and your personal "join now" link. Save your original Eventbrite email. Webinar participants will receive a link to a recording of the webinar.The webinar is led by Dr. Doug Boyd, director of the Louie B. Nunn Center for Oral History at the University of Kentucky Libraries. Boyd is an international expert on oral history, archives, and digital technologies who envisioned, designed, and implemented OHMS.The Oral History Metadata Synchronizer (OHMS) is a free and open-source web-based system designed to enhance access to online oral history. OHMS connects the textual search term in a transcript or an index to the corresponding moment in the recorded interview. Now being utilized by institutions and individuals worldwide, OHMS was designed to be an easy-to-use solution that can be implemented using various content management systems, from WordPress or Omeka to more complex digital library platforms. From the beginning, OHMS was designed with simplicity, affordability, and sustainability, providing individuals and institutions with a powerful option for enhancing online access to oral history. Recently, OHMS has been incorporated into the powerful Aviary Platform.
