Conversations on Sacred/Civic Placemaking: Michael-Ray Mathews

Sympara

Could sacred/civic space be the place for religious activists and innovators to meet? Join the conversation with Michael-Ray Mathews.

Social justice activists and social innovators seem to live in different worlds. How might sacred/civic placemaking bring these leaders together for the common good? Join Sympara cofounders Daniel Pryfogle and Michael-Ray Mathews for a conversation about the prospects of a progressive religious movement that takes up the prophetic work of speaking truth to power and building homes, repairing breaches and restoring streets. Daniel and Michael-Ray are ordained Baptist ministers and practical theologians. They met in 1995 at the American Baptist Seminary of the West (now Berkeley School of Theology). With two other friends, they founded Sympara in 2003 as a covenantal community. Daniel is CEO of Sympara. Michael-Ray is deputy director and chief faith officer for Faith in Action, the national community organizing network. Their conversation will be held on August 19 from noon-1 p.m. EDT. A Zoom link will be sent upon registration.Learn about future conversations here.
