Film Screening: Song of the FirefliesRefreshments will be provided by the Filipino American National Historical Society of San Mateo County.Inspired by the story of internationally renowned Loboc Children’s Choir, Song of the Fireflies follows the story of Alma Taldo, a young music trainer and choir master in the 1980s, and the young voices and dreams of young high schoolers Jacqueline and Herbert, along with their small group of gifted choir-mates, as they navigate the tough series of choral competitions—all the way to the national competition in Manila. (Run time 135 mins). Language: Tagalog with English subtitles.“Song of the Fireflies is a tale about the power of music and how it can be used to speak truth to power. Director King Palisoc’s new movie is truly special: a tender coming-of-age story, a tribute to music as salvation, and a commentary on life under Philippine martial law—all woven through the real-life rise of the Loboc Children’s Choir in the early 1980s.”—Mark Angelo Ching, PEP.PHThis film will be shown twice, 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM, seating is limited.
