Queering the Archive: Discussion and Intervention Workshop

This is a free online workshop open to all under the LGBT+ or Queer umbrella, or for Allies. What is Queering the Archive? Queering the Archive is an ongoing initiative designed to help us investigate, intervene, and provide better representation on LGBTQ+ records at the School of Scottish Studies Archives, University of Edinburgh.What is this workshop about? This workshop is about developing Queer representation and having your say in the catalogues and future of our collections. It will involve active participation through discussions on Queer representation in Archives and our collections, as well as active intervention through crowd-sourcing search-terms designed to be by the community and for the community. What do I have to do for the workshop? There will be a small amount of remote research required, using handouts and resources given to help you investigate our records and answer the questions for the event. There is no prior knowledge needed on our collections; we will provide guidance on who we are, how to research and access our remote records, and all about Queering the Archive during the session. All you have to do is access our resources and think about the questions on the worksheet before the workshop to help with participation. You will be given access to the workshop Zoom details and resources for the event. You will also be given access to our Slack channel for a hub for our resources and networking with others taking part. Please do let organisers know if you haven&#x27;t received the resources or access to the Zoom and Slack. Authentication is required, so please sign in to the event with the details you used on Eventbrite sign-up. Accessibility: The workshop will have Closed Captioning, and this transcript will be recorded and saved for the organisers only. All names and personal details will be omitted. Transcripts can be available on request and given at the organisers and requester discretion. Image descriptions will be used. Please do let us know if you have any access requirements for this workshop. There will be three 10 minute breaks, and you are welcome to dip in and out and keep your mic and camera off. Content Warning: Please note that some records and material discussed may be triggering or offensive, and may contain queerphobia, transphobia, racism, slurs, as well as themes of S***** A******, and other difficult topics that discussion on representation can bring. There is a safe space policy for this workshop and a zero tolerance policy for abusive behaviour or comments.
