At Rooftop Films we believe film can be so much more than just watching a movie, so we curate unique events that combine great music, quality film, and some of the most beautiful locations that New York has to offer. By thinking beyond the screen, we help to bring communities together and change the way that film, music, art, and ideas interact with the city around us.Rooftop Films’ mission is to engage and inspire diverse communities by showing movies in outdoor locations, supporting the production of new independent films, helping local organizations to produce screenings and events, and renting equipment at low-cost to artists and nonprofits. Rooftop Films is more than a film festival. We are a community. We are a collective collaboration between filmmakers and festivals; between audience members and artists; between venues and neighborhoods. Our goal is to nurture a vibrant independent filmmaking and film-going community not only by exhibiting the work of emerging filmmakers, but also by providing essential support systems for those who otherwise have none.

But though the end may be near, we prefer to think of each summer’s close as but the next step towards a transformation, and we see each oncoming autumn as just a stretch of cool earth between here and the next warm horizon. Join us in Green-Wood Cemetery for a meditative short film journey through things, places and experiences that feel like endings, but aren’t quite done. We’ll watch a praying mantis embraced by a deadly beloved; a soccer referee contemplating potential retaliation, but still calling the shots the way he saw them; an inverted birth in the Cabbage Patch Kids headquarters; and a wordless embrace that persists as it tumbles through the sands of time. You may sit in your pod with up to 4 people, but we ask that you remain socially distanced from anyone not in the group you have chosen to sit with.Where will the screening take place within Green-Wood Cemetery? Check in will be at the main entrance on 25th Street and 5th Avenue, but the screening location will be about 10-15 minute walk from there. Please contact us if someone in your party will need assistance getting to the location.How accessible is this venue? The site where the film will be shown is approximately a 7 minute walk (partially uphill) from the entrance to the venue. Other than this, the venue is accessible to all. Rooftop Films are open to all ages. What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
