<a href="https://www.eventbrite.com/e/164787224023" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">PARA ESPAÑOL REGISTRARSE AQUÍ</a><a href="https://www.eventbrite.com/e/164787224023" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer"></a>In our diverse country, immigration (past or recent) is an almost universal experience. This event will feature personal stories from people who have recently arrived in the United States. They will share the challenges they left behind, the difficulties experienced on their journey, and their experiences raising a family in a new culture. The focus will be on Spanish-speaking newcomers and will highlight the positive impact of Hispanics in our community. Leaders from community agencies will also discuss how we can make our community more welcoming. The forum will be delivered twice, once in English and a week later in Spanish.

Featured Speakers:Luz Corcuera works as the Executive Director at UnidosNow. Born in Peru and moved to Florida from Toronto, Canada. She previously served as Program Director for Healthy Start Manatee and as a Community Health Director for the Florida Department of Health in Manatee County. Luz is passionate about education, health, cultural competency, and understanding the social determinants influencing socio-economic wellbeing. Her significant work includes developing and overseeing diverse community-based initiatives to empower underserved and at-risk communities via prevention and education. As an immigrant woman, Luz knows firsthand the challenges of integrating into a new community and sees education as the path out of poverty—values that she instilled in her own children from a very early age. Yazmin Castellano works as a consultant for the Center for Autism &amp; Related Disabilities (CARD-USF) serving middle/high school children and young adults. Her primary goals are to raise awareness about Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) to Hispanic families and professionals. Yazmin reaches out to the Hispanic families via TV doing interviews with Telemundo Tampa, Univisión Tampa and Orlando, various radio stations: Tampa &amp; Sarasota (iHeart Media). Currently, she has a monthly section with D’latinos (Univisión Ft. Myers). Before joining CARD, Yazmin worked in the fields of mental health, education, and case management.Ivis Triana is the Manager of the Lutheran Services of Florida-Comprehensive Refugee Services Program in Sarasota. Ivis previously worked for Catholic Charities, Diocese of Venice with the Refugees Employed and Productive Program in Sarasota. She first came to Catholic Charities as a client when she first arrived in the United States in 2008. In her 13 years working with the Refugee population, Ivis has continually demonstrated a genuine desire to assist all the refugees in her area and provide professional service. Ivis holds a Bachelor of Science Degree, Major in Geophysical Engineering from the Superior Institute of Technology, Havana, Cuba. She completed postgraduate studies in tourism, marketing, and sales.Digna Adelbis Rivera Durón is 51 years old and from Honduras. She is married and has two daughters. She left her country 7 years ago because of her daughter’s medical condition which could only be addressed in the US. She has a teaching degree from the prestigious National Pedagogy University of Honduras and 15 years of experience in bilingual programs and currently works in a local daycare. Digna shares her immigrant experience, especially with the acculturation of her daughters in our schoolsEnith Marin is a multifaceted artist, wife, and mother of 4. She previously taught Spanish and English in high schools and adult classes. Enith moved from Columbia to New York, and then to Bradenton, Florida. She kept improving her art skill by going to national and international art conventions as a student as well as a teacher and entering art exhibitions. Enith now teaches from her own studio where she is delighted to pass her knowledge and enthusiasm to others through art. The Enith Marin Art Gallery is open to the public, where she not only displays her work but those of her students and allows various local artists to meet and be ambassadors of the Hispano-American art within the culture of Bradenton and Sarasota.
