A special conversation as part of the Growing Home NWA Roadshow.

Be part of the conversation about Northwest Arkansas’ future at a special Onward Ozarks at 9 a.m. Sept. 18. This event is part of the Growing Home NWA Roadshow, an eight-day series of community meetings and pop-ups Sept. 17–24 across Benton and Washington counties.Organized by the Northwest Arkansas Council and its workforce housing division Groundwork with planning firm DPZ CoDesign, the roadshow is sharing data and gathering ideas on housing, transportation, infrastructure and open space to help shape a regional growth strategy. Matthew Lambert of DPZ CoDesign and Susan Henderson of Placemakers will provide early insights from research and community conversations and show how public input is helping set priorities, define a vision and chart strategies for the region’s future while preserving what makes Northwest Arkansas unique

<h3>Matthew Lambert</h3>Partner, DPZ CoDesignMatthew Lambert is a partner at DPZ CoDesign where he leads their Portland, Oregon office. His work spans many scales, including policies like zoning, planning for cities and regions, and urban design for new development areas and transformations of existing places. Matt splits his professional time between work for cities, developers, and institutions, each of which provide a separate but connected perspective to placemaking and city building. He is also dedicated to advancing advocacy and volunteerism through the Congress for the New Urbanism, where he serves as the board chair, PLACE Initiative, where he is a board member and co-founder, and also his local neighborhood business association. Matt feels that placemaking and urban design goes beyond pretty pictures to provide the foundation upon which people build their lives, local economies, and foster innovation. The ecosystem of cities and regions is complex, but the outcomes of decision making is critical to the hundreds who live in small developments and the millions who are affected by larger scale policy. Lambert is dedicated to making and remaking places to be fiscally prosperous, diverse, healthy, and sustainable.

<h3>Susan Henderson</h3>Managing Principal, PlaceMakers, LLCSusan Henderson is an architect and one of the founders of PlaceMakers, an award-winning urban design practice focusing on placemaking, inclusive social and economic opportunity, public health and wellness, and robust community engagement. PlaceMakers helps local governments align growth and development with community vision. Susan is a LEED Accredited Professional, and brings an expertise in sustainability to all of her design work, and has let numerous code reform projects across North America, Eastern Europe and Asia. She is co-author of the Lean Code Tool, a contributor to the SmartCode &amp; Manual, Lean Comp Plan Tool, and author of the SmartCode Landscape Module. Susan is a founding faculty of CNU’s Project for Code Reform, assisting local governments in determining their capacity and crafting code reform to create more engaging and profitable places.
