Intermediate Contemporary with The Click
An intermediate contemporary class with beginner friendly options and a supportive community
BEGINNING JUNE 23:
Summer is for trying new things! The Click is pausing our usual all-levels Community Contemporary* class to experiment with a brand new intermediate technique class led by Kristin Wagner.
This contemporary-based movement class will keep the spirit of Community Contemporary -- a super friendly vibe and a healthy dose of improvisation -- while existing in the container of a more traditional technique class. Class will begin with a playful guided improv during which movers can tune in to their body's needs and creative whimsy. Next, we will explore momentum, release, and expansive limb use through both standing and floor technique exercises. Class will culminate with a joyful dance phrase, during which participants can take creative license and put their own spin on the material.
Beginner-friendly options and accommodations will be available for most of the material explored.
Come ready to sweat and smile!
*SUB ALERTS: Carmen Rizzo will teach 7/21, 8/4, and 8/11.

About the Instructors:
Angelina Benitez graduated from Salem State University with a B.A in both Modern/Contemporary Dance and has since studied at Bates Dance Festival and continues to study with local Boston-based artists. Her choreography at Salem State was presented at Boston's American College Dance Association Conference and earned her a Presidential Arts Scholarship and a Creativity Award in Dance. Angie has immersed herself in teaching dance in the Greater Boston area at local studios, schools, and residencies. Her recent performance experience includes local arts festivals and events such as Verse / Visual, 24 Hour ChoreoFest, Salem Arts Festival, Art Walk with Luminarium, and more. Much of her work is focused on collaboration. When she's not teaching dance, you can find her working as a social media strategist, creating fiber art, and taking pole dance classes.
Kristin Wagner is a movement-based artist working across Greater Boston and Worcester. Kristin collaborates and performs as a company member with KAIROS Dance Theater, Chavi Bansal/Vimoksha Dance, and Peter DiMuro/Public Displays of Motion. She creates work independently, and with Decent Dance (@decentdance) and The Click (@the.click.boston). Her work has been presented in venues big and small (mostly small) in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Maine. Kristin shares her love of movement with students of all ages in a variety of spaces across the East Coast from Massachusetts to South Carolina. She is a certified artist in the City of Boston, an RYT-200 yoga teacher, and a mommy. Recently, she has been most committed to ensuring that anyone who wants to dance can keep dancing, especially mothers. Learn more: www.bodiesmoving.com / @bodies_moving.
About The Click:
Developed in 2021, The Click is a collaborative dance company and creative collective in Greater Boston. Its members are dancers whose primary medium of physical expression is through contemporary dance forms, but who experiment in many modes and genres of creativity. As a collective, The Click’s members are each deeply invested in answering the universally complex question: who am I and what am I doing here?
The Click contributes to the consistent presence of creativity in Boston and beyond in several ways: by educating pre-professional youth dancers, professional adult dancers and the dance-curious of any age; performing original creations several times a year at traditional and non-traditional venues across Massachusetts, New England and beyond; and by investing in the curiosity of those new to dance in Boston or new to dance in general by maintaining an open, inclusive and accessible community.

*Community Contemporary is an opportunity for all levels of movers to dive into improvisation, technique, and play while fostering relationships new and old. This class was primarily led by Angie Benitez, whose class focused equally on technical and improvisational exploration. Class often begin with a guided warm up designed to loosen up the body and the creative juices. Participants will generate movement through games and exercises while questioning: how can we value "play"? The class moves individually and as a group while navigating a variety of exercises, creative prompts, and choreography.
