Mākena Golf & Beach Club’s (MGBC) is a residential community being developed by Discovery Land Company in South Maui. Its core philosophy is to build connections and relationships through place-based inspiration, and support communities focused on tradition and family. MGBC has devoted itself to listening to the long-standing and resilient families of Mākena, providing a plan for sustainability, engaging with the community, having an ongoing cultural training program for staff and supporting Maui’s youth through educational outreach and charity events.

Hawaiian Soul, a narrative short-film based on the true story of Hawaiian hero, musician, and activist, George Jarrett Helm, Jr., is coming to Maui with a screening in Mākena. With screenings happening across Maui, from Waiheʻe to Lahaina, Waiʻehu, Puʻu Kukui, Pukalani and Hāna, the Mākena Golf &amp; Beach is thrilled to host the Hawaiian Soul Movie on Monday, July 19th from 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm. Hawaiian Soul is a narrative short-film created by the next generation of Hawaiian filmmakers, ʻĀina Paikai and Kaliko Maʻiʻi, based on the true story of Hawaiian hero George Jarrett Helm, Jr. This is a tribute to the legacy of a leader and artist who used his voice to inspire a revolution of consciousness. Of particular note for the Maui community, is that this short film chronicles Helmʻs actions to gain the support of Maui kūpuna (community elders) to aid in the fight of protecting the precious neighboring island of Kahoʻolawe from military bombing. In order to keep safety a priority and maintain official mandates on gathering, this event will be limited to the first 50 Maui residents who register. Masks will be required. The screening will be held on Monday July 19, 2021 at 5:30 PM at Mākena Golf &amp; Beach Clubʻs oceanfront lawn adjacent to Maluaka Beach.
