Vehicle Inspection, Trail Selection and Registration

Each driver is expected to inspect their vehicle to assure that it meets the following criteria:

  • Absolutely NO alcohol allowed while on the trails.
  • Open top or soft top vehicles must have a Roll Bar protecting all passengers.
  • Seat belts for all passengers.
  • Vehicle battery must be secure in proper battery tray.
  • Vehicles must have front AND rear tow points. Leaf spring shackles are not considered a tow point. Proper tow hooks or D-Rings please.
  • Vehicle must have a full size spare tire (or nearly full size, no ‘donuts’).
  • Vehicle should not leak fluids. A drop or two during inspection is ok, leaving a puddle is not.
  • Vehicle cannot qualify as side-by-side, utv or atv. If unsure please contact chair@nova4x4.org

The driver will select a colored vulture sticker at registration based on their vehicle's build. The colors available are green, blue, black and red just like the trail difficulty ratings at Rausch. The sticker should be placed on the vehicle's windshield. General rig sticker guidelines are:

  • Green - stock; open, open; 32" tire size or less
  • Blue - 33" tire size minimum, one locker required.
  • Black - 35" tire size minimum, two lockers strongly recommended
  • Red - 37" tire size minimum, two lockers & winch required, expect body damage

This will let trail leaders know the capabilities of your rig and make sure the group is appropriately matched. Of course a rig with a black sticker may choose to run green or blue trails. We would like to keep group sizes to around 10 vehicles or less. There may be several of each group going out, and at least one green group. Drivers will sign up for the group they wish to ride with each day. The sign up sheet will list trail color, number, and trail guides name. Trail lineup will be in the Rausch Creek parking lot.
