Dr. Ken Burton, National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility Coordinator, will be discussing biological and agricultural security.

Today, while balancing military and diplomacy priorities, national governments assess and combat threats in cyberspace and outer space, water supplies and power grids, food production and energy chains. In this six-part virtual series, the International Relations Council will take a deep dive into the national security arena, offering historical context and global perspective for core dimensions of national security and exploring the risks, priorities, and tactics on the radar of U.S. security policy.About the SpeakerDr. Ken Burton is currently the National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility (NBAF) Coordinator and APHIS lead for USDA NBAF in Manhattan, KS. Dr. Burton received his Bachelor of Science in biology and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degrees from Kansas State University. He owned and operated the Lyons Veterinary Clinic in Lyons, Kansas for 28 years, providing rural Rice County residents with companion animal and food animal production veterinary medicine and surgery. In 2010, Dr. Burton became Program Director for the National Agricultural Biosecurity Center (NABC) at K State. He was principle investigator and co-principle investigator on projects involving transboundary animal disease (TAD) response planning, training, and education at the national, state and local levels.Burton was also Director of Project Coordination for the Biosecurity Research Institute (BRI) at K-State. He provided oversight for BSL-3, ABSL-3, and BSL-3Ag research scheduling, research transition to containment, communications between research teams and BRI staff, and directed pre-project coordination prior to containment. He also provided veterinary support for TAD projects in containment.About the ModeratorChief connector, change-maker, storyteller, podcast and video producer and brand builder. Stacy has built her career in marketing communications and member services roles. Currently, Stacy is the co-owner of Martinez Media &amp; Marketing Group with her husband, Ray. Stacy oversees the company&#x27;s business coordination and marketing clients and is complemented by Ray&#x27;s multimedia talents with photography and videography. Stacy&#x27;s background and experience allow her to help clients from animal health to seed companies, educational consulting associations, to conservation- focused organizations.She also has a podcast she hosts and produces called Connect Change &amp; Challenge focused on personal, professional development and helping individuals move themselves and their organizations forward. Stacy started her communications focus at Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Science in agricultural communications and journalism with minors in agribusiness and animal sciences. Before branching off, she spent her career in various marketing settings, including full-service marketing agencies, state government, and non-profit associations. Stacy&#x27;s interest in biosecurity was sparked early in her life through speeches and presentations in her 4-H and FFA years. It worked its way into multiple projects across her areas of study in college.
