Join a discussion highlighting the perspectives of four Texas-based Asian American photographers.

Join a discussion highlighting the perspectives of four Texas-based Asian American photographers on the topics of identity and their photographic techniques. Photojournalist, Amar Gupta, will facilitate the conversation with AARC community exhibit artists Ben Aqua, Lizzie Chen, and Sherwin Rivera Tibayan. The group will share how they view their role as Asian American artists, their creative processes and journey to establish their place in the world of art and photo journalism. The discussion will be hosted on Zoom. About the Artists Amar Gupta works primarily in greyscale, large format photography, and also runs a skateboarding company called EVRYNG. He seeks abstract connections in his photography. He is interested in the way that collections of colors, lines, shapes and forms tell a story that cannot be conveyed by words. Gupta’s photography studio is at <a href="https://www.contracommon.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Contracommon</a> in Bee Cave, Texas. He frequently travels around the state to conduct photoshoots on location. <a href="https://spark.adobe.com/page/aLdjHh86QaNBA/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Learn More</a>Ben Aqua is a multidisciplinary artist based in Austin, Texas; born in Brooklyn, New York. Their visual work has been exhibited internationally and published in Rolling Stone, NPR, NYLON, SPIN, NME, Flaunt, Bloomberg Businessweek, OUT, ARKITIP, XLR8R, Beautiful/Decay, Rhizome, Hi-Fructose, JOGGING and Fecal Face. Their music has been featured in Apple’s “Shot on iPhone” campaign, Resident Advisor’s podcast series, Interview Magazine, The Creators Project, Mad Decent, DFA, VICE, Dummy Mag, FACT Mag, Modular, URB, BUTT and Opening Ceremony.<a href="https://www.instagram.com/b3naqua/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Learn More</a>Lizzie Chen is a visual storyteller based in Austin, Texas. With a photojournalism and documentary storytelling background, she is interested in long-form and collaborative projects. Her work has been published nation-wide with a focus on education, immigration and social issues. Hisn works have been exhibited widely, most notably at The Reading Room (Dallas), Mixed Greens (NYC), and the Houston Center for Photography. He has attended residencies at the Center for Photography at Woodstock (NY), ACRE (Chicago), and Triple Canopy (NYC).
