Join the Friends of the Boston HarborWalk on a walking tour of the East Boston Harborwalk.

East Boston Evolutions will focus on the ongoing transformation of a small stretch of the East Boston waterfront that was the earliest to be industrialized. The ebb and flow of an astonishing variety of industries between what is now Clippership Wharf and The Eddy chronicles the fast-moving developments of maritime technology and trade between the 1830&#x27;s and World War II. Meanwhile the very shape of the waterfront was expanding as mud flats were filled in and ever-larger wharves were extended into deeper water. After 50 years of late 20th Century neglect, this piece of the waterfront has now emerged in yet another incarnation as upscale housing, while casting a cautious eye at rising sea levels. The tour will use vintage visuals to provide a sense of what was once in the neighborhood and to raise the question whether in future decades the only constant is likely to be change. All are welcome, but please only RSVP if you plan to come, as space is limited and we want to be able to contact you in case of inclement weather.The Friends of the Boston Harborwalk is a volunteer group affiliated with Boston Harbor Now. The group meets monthly to promote awareness, public enjoyment and local stewardship of Boston’s 43-mile Harborwalk.
