Meet and Greet with Laasya Shekhar, Managing Editor

Alex is the Founder, Publisher, and Editor of The Xylom, a nonprofit news outlet growing healthy, interconnected communities across the world. He covers the future of cities and environmental justice, with a focus on the American South and the Global South. His reporting surrounding false statements from the City of Atlanta regarding "Cop City" led him to being named the Atlanta Press Club's 2024 Rising Star. Born and raised in Hong Kong and fluent in Cantonese and Mandarin, Alex also recently led a team to translate the KSJ Science Editing Handbook into Chinese (Traditional and Simplified). Alex holds a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering from Georgia Tech and a master's degree in Science Writing from MIT.

We're here to grow healthy, interconnected communities around the world.</h3>As the only Asian American-run news outlet dedicated to science, climate, and environmental coverage, The Xylom leverages our lived experiences to become your most trusted resource on environmental health impacts and democracy.Our current part-time Managing Editor, Rhysea, is departing the newsroom at the end of August to return to academia; ready to step in is our long-time contributor Laasya. In this meet-and-greet, she will articulate how we will deliver on our year-end commitment to publish 12 stories a month, which triples our pace from June.
