Workshop InformationDates: August 13 – 15Hours: 10 AM – 4 PMLocation: Five Points Arts Center Print LabInstructors: Kathleen Schroeder and John WillisWorkshop DescriptionThis three-day master class is geared toward intermediate and advance printmakers. Participants must have experience with either linoleum relief prints or polyester plate lithographs. In this workshop, artists will create a one-color relief or polyester lithographic print and then, using a precision registration system and a variety of monotype techniques, will further develop those prints into a variable edition of monoprints. Participants will leave the workshop with a set of monotype techniques that they can use to expand their printmaking practice into the creation of variable editions. Participants should plan to come to the workshop with ideas or drawings that will fit into an 8” x 10” print format.Supplies provided by Student:<ul><li>Printmaking paper. Suggested papers include Rives BFK, Somerset, or other good quality printmaking paper. Paper will be torn down to 15 x 11” so consider this when choosing paper. The amount of paper will be determined by the number of prints the attendee wants to complete, but plan to bring at least two full sheets.</li><li>Linoleum cutting tools for attendees choosing to do linocuts.</li><li>A sketch book for notes and ideas.</li><li>Experienced monotype artists should come with any specialized tools that they use in their practice.</li></ul>Supplies provided by Workshop:<ul><li>Linoleum blocks, specifically fabricated for this course, or polyester lithography plates will be supplied.</li><li>Polyester plate drawing materials. </li><li>All inks, ink additives, and other basic supplies necessary to make and print images will be provided by the workshop.</li></ul>NOTE: Workshop will be capped at 12 participants.Instructor BiosKathleen Schroeder Kathleen Schroeder is the Director of the Five Points Print Lab and is an Adjunct Professor of Printmaking at the Hartford Art School where she has taught lithography and relief printmaking. She specializes in lithography and is a graduate of the summer lithography course at the Tamarind Institute in Albuquerque, NM. She also works as the liaison between the Five Points Launch Pad program and the Hartford Art School.John Willis John Willis recently retired after 30 years at the Hartford Art School where he taught relief, monotype, and lithography. Willis has exhibited nationally including most recently in New York, Seattle, Boston, and Portland Maine. Willis’s work was included in the book, Singular and Serial: Contemporary Monotype and Monoprint, 2019, a national survey of 70 printmakers working in the tradition of monotype and monoprint.
