Learning Objectives: 
• Knowledge of terminology: disability, assistive technology (AT), adaptive equipment (AE), low vision, blindness, and color-blindness
• Understand the role of occupational therapists
• Knowledge of available AT and AE for visual disabilities of farmers and ranchers
• Visual demonstration of select AT resources

Agenda: This educational presentation is focused on vision tools for farmers and ranchers. Terminology regarding disability, assistive technology (AT), adaptive equipment (AE), low vision, blindness, and color blindness will be discussed. Understanding the role of occupational therapists for low vision clients will also be explained, as well as available AT and AE for farmers and ranchers who have visual disabilities. At the end of the session, resources, details, and visual demonstrations of select AT and AE for farmers and ranchers will be shown.

Jesse Armijo: Jesse Armijo is an AT Coordinator with the New Mexico Governor’s Commission on Disability, New Mexico Technology Assistance Program (NMTAP). He is a Rehabilitation Engineering Society of North America (RESNA) certified Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) and a Certified ADA Coordinator. Jesse has worked for NMTAP for over 7 years, where he oversees all AT activities including device demonstrations, device loans, training, and technical assistance across the state of New Mexico. He has years of technological experience working with all types of devices, systems, and programs. Jesse holds two Bachelor’s Degrees from the University of New Mexico; a BA in English with a Psychology minor and a BA in Media Arts.

Nhu Mac: Nhu has a Health Sciences and Occupational Sciences background, respectively, from Arizona State University (ASU) and PIMA Medical Institute. Nhu has been a licensed Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA/L) since 2016 with experience in outpatient pediatric, schools, home health, hands therapy, and skilled nursing homes. She is pursuing her Doctorate in Occupational Therapy at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). Her current interests reside in community health and primary care settings.

Jennifer Zielinski: Jen received a Bachelor of Science at the University of Northern Colorado in Audiology and Speech Language Sciences with a minor in special education. She also has a degree in Fine art and Illustration from the American Academy of Art in Chicago. Jen has experience working for Denver Public Schools in special education. She is currently an Occupational Therapy Doctoral student at University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). Jen is looking forward to completing her degree to work with the public school system as an occupational therapist.
