The AUDELCO and Obie Award-winning Billie Holiday Theatre is artistic anchor to the largest African American community in the nation: Central Brooklyn and one of the last remaining theaters forged in the aesthetic and sociocultural kiln of America’s Civil Rights/Black Arts Movements. Founded in May 1972, The Billie Holiday Theatre is a beacon for world class art rooted in racial justice in the heart of Bed-Stuy: producing, presenting, and commissioning new and classic works and festivals in theater, dance, music, visual arts, and film; providing artistic and institutional residencies; and serving ages 3 to 103 with educational programming. For bold and daring artists and audiences from around the corner and around the world who look to The Billie as a rigorous artistic space that tackles racial injustices, presents new and unapologetic voices, and imagines a world where all people can flourish...welcome home.

The Billie Holiday Theatre is set to launch Caribbean Theatre Festival – “Caribbean Calling: Roots &amp; Resurgence,” a landmark celebration of English-speaking Caribbean artistry, storytelling, and cultural legacy. The Festival marks a groundbreaking new addition to The Billie’s acclaimed Black Narrative series. Curated by Heather Alicia Simms and Patrice Johnson Chevannes, the festival will take place at The Billie located in Bed Stuy, Brooklyn on Saturday, December 13, 2025 at 5PM.The Caribbean Theatre Festival will highlight excerpts of seminal works that have had profound impact as well as the dynamic, resurgent voices shaping the region’s contemporary theatrical landscape. Selected excerpts include: Mustapha Matura’s Meetings, Derek Walcott’s Ti-Jean and His Brothers, Una Marson &amp; Horace D. Vaz’s At What a Price, Alwin Bully’s McBee, Sistren Theatre Collective’s Bellywoman Bangarang, and Edgar Nkosi White’s The Nine Night - alongside bold new plays such as Stacey Sargeant’s Buh Wha’ Trouble Is Dis?, Patrice Johnson Chevannes’ Jamancipendence Day, Christin Eve Cato’s Beneath the Land of Cockpit Country, Winsome Pinnock’s Leave Taking, Dhari Noel’s Is Cry You Cry’n? and Petron Brown’s The Colour Woman.Each of these works will be performed by a cast of seasoned actors to include: Opal Alladin, Jacq Gregg, David Heron, Lateefah Holder, Kimberly Huie, Chelsea Ann Jones, Jenny Jules, Amani Kojo, Simone Moore, Stacey Sargeant, Celeste Sena, Adesola Osakalumi and Paul Pryce.The festival will also include a dynamic panel moderated by Kamilah Forbes (Executive Producer, The Apollo), featuring Karl O’Brien Williams (Artistic Director, Braata Productions), Patricia McGregor (Artistic Director, New York Theatre Workshop), Nicole Watson (Producing Artistic Director, Playwrights’ Center), and Lamar Richardson (Tony Award®–winning Producer &amp; Actor).
